Test the shoe at your walking pace

Running shoes can be useful walking options, but a comfortable running description does not settle how they feel during a walk. Start with the outings you want to support: routine daily steps, a longer fitness walk or a mixture of walking and standing. Compare the shoe at that pace instead of assuming that a quicker ride will feel better.

Pay attention to heel hold, forefoot bending and upper pressure as you take repeated steps. A shoe that feels pleasant for a brief try-on still needs to suit the time you expect to spend in it. The walking guides explain how to build a shortlist and when activity-specific footwear deserves a separate comparison.
